According to The Daily Express, Alvaro Morata has told friends that his mind is made up to join Manchester United as the deal 'has been done' with Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old has been Jose Mourinho’s top transfer target this summer following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Red Devils failed to renew his deal at the club for fear that he will not recover properly from a horrible knee injury at 36.
The report claims that Morata spoke directly with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in a bid to break the stalemate in the move and it helped to speed up negotiations.
Manchester United's £60m deal fell short of the Los Blancos £70million valuation of the player but they have now reached an undisclosed compromise on the deal.
Morata has since agreed personal terms to move to Old Trafford as he believes it will stand him in good stead for the 2018 FIFA World Cup where his main competition for the number nine role in Julen Lopetegui’s squad is Chelsea’s Diego Costa who is currently unsettled at Stamford Bridge.
Morata is a local Madrid lad and came through the youth ranks at the club and was given his debut with the first team by Mourinho in December 2010 and the pair have remained on good terms since.
The Portuguese have even told him that he will be very important at Manchester United.
After four seasons on the periphery at the Bernabeu, Morata left for Juventus in 2014 to win back-to-back Serie A titles in Turin, as well as two Coppa Italias and a Supercoppa Italiana, before Real Madrid exercised their right to buy back the forward for £23m last summer.
