Above 60% Candidates Obtain Above 5Passes Including Mathematics And English Lang. In 2016/17 Exams.
Total number of 923 , 486 candidates , out of 1 , 559 , 162 who sat for the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination obtained credit passes in Mathematics and English .
The figure , which represents 59 . 22 per cent, is an improvement on the percentage of school candidates who obtained credit passes in Mathematics and English in the 2015 and 2016 diets of the examination.
While 38 . 68 per cent obtained credit passes in Maths and English in 2015 , the percentage for 2016 was 52 . 97 per cent.
However , the results of 214 , 952 candidates , representing 13 . 79 per cent in the 2017 WASSCE , are being withheld by the West African Examinations Council.
The Head of National Office , WAEC, Mr . Olu Adenipekun , said this on Monday during a briefing to announce the results of the examination in Lagos .
Adenipekun also announced that the conduct of the first additional WASSCE diet for private candidates would begin between January and February 2018 .
He said , “ Out of the total number of candidates that day for the examination, 1 , 471 , 151 candidates , representing 94 . 36 per cent, have their results fully processed and released , while 95 , 734 candidates , representing 5 . 64 per cent, have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.
“ Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released . ”
