Breaking News; Fifa Introduced Forth Man Subtitute In A Match.


With world football’s governing body having already trialled the use of a fourth substitute in the Club World Cup last summer, UEFA have today announced their plan to introduce the procedure to a further 4 tournaments over the coming months.

First-time
The use of a permitted fourth substitute was debuted during last year’s Club World Cup final, where Alvaro Morata became the first player to take up the role in the history of professional football during extra-time of Real Madrid’s victory over Kashima Antlers.

Extension
Today, UEFA have announced that a fourth replacement will be introduced at this summer’s women’s Euros and Under-19 Championship, along with the men’s Under-21 and Under-19 Championships.

The extra sub will only be permitted if the match in question reaches extra-time.

FA Cup
A fourth substitute has actually been utilised in English football this season, with Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho having come on as his side’s fourth replacement during their semi-final defeat at the hands of Arsenal, after the FA introduced the rule from the tournament’s quarter final stage on.
