Engr. Babachir Lawal (SGF) Ignors Senate Committee Again
The suspended Secretary to the government of the federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal has again snubbed the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on humanitarian crises in the North East.
The public hearing which was scheduled for today at the SGF’s request for 10.am Thursday, had all the Committee members waiting for two hours without his presence.
Reacting to the development, the Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Shehu Sani expressed dissatisfaction over the recalcitrant of Mr. Lawal, saying the hearing was an opportunity for him to clear himself on some vexed issues.
“The suspended SGF had the opportunity to clear some issues in a public hearing like this which was fixed at his own request.
Unfortunately, he refused to come after waiting for him for two hours.
“The letter of invitation was taken to SGF’s but we could not see him, the messenger took it to his residence, but was turned back by his security personnel,” Sani revealed.
Sani noted that the Committee would go ahead to submit report to the red Chambers for further debates.
In the same vein, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, said it was probable that his appearance would have allowed him to clarify issues that were of positive effect in his situation.
He added that those advising him against appearing before the Senate Committee were not helping matters.
